As online sales continue to grow, distribution centers must operate with speed, precision, and flexibility. For Urban Outfitters, this meant creating highly customized workstations to support a new, state-of-the-art e-commerce facility—on a tight timeline. In partnership with Rousseau, they delivered a solution that balanced efficiency, ergonomics, and distinctive design.
Urban Outfitters needed hundreds of customized workstations—each tailored to specific tasks—delivered and installed within a strict deadline for their new automated distribution center.
Maximize workspace efficiency and functionality across multiple workstation configurations, while ensuring on-time delivery and installation.
Urban Outfitters, known for its creative and distinctive retail brands—including Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People, Terrain, and BHLDN—approaches every aspect of its business with a focus on innovation and customer connection. That same mindset extended to the design of its new 1.1 million square-foot e-commerce distribution center in Gap, Pennsylvania.
Built to support rapidly growing online demand, the facility integrates advanced automation systems with traditional storage solutions. To equip the space, Urban Outfitters partnered with Meyer Material Handling Products Inc., their trusted Rousseau representative, to design and implement hundreds of specialized workstations.
Having previously used Rousseau products, Urban Outfitters was confident in both the quality and flexibility of the solutions. Working closely with Meyer and Rousseau’s engineering team, they conducted a detailed site assessment to define requirements and optimize workstation configurations.
Each workstation was designed with both function and ergonomics in mind. The solution included a mix of mobile and fixed pick-and-pack stations, all equipped with integrated power and support for mounted technology. A wide range of accessories ensured that tools and materials were always within reach, maximizing employee efficiency.
To meet unique operational needs, Rousseau also developed custom accessories specifically for this project—demonstrating a high level of adaptability and collaboration.
Beyond design, execution was critical. Hundreds of workstations had to be manufactured, shipped, and installed across the massive facility—on schedule. Rousseau coordinated closely with internal teams and external partners to manage logistics, delivering multiple truckloads on time.
Installation crews followed a carefully planned sequence, with Rousseau representatives on-site to ensure a smooth rollout. The result was a seamless implementation that met both timeline and performance expectations.
The final setup delivered highly functional, ergonomic, and visually cohesive workspaces that align with Urban Outfitters’ distinctive brand identity. Employees benefit from optimized workflows, while the business gains improved efficiency and scalability.
Through close collaboration between Urban Outfitters, Meyer Material Handling, and Rousseau, the project successfully addressed complex operational challenges without compromising on design or deadlines.
The result: a modern distribution environment that is as efficient as it is distinctive.
