Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What safety options are available for Spacesaver mobile storage systems?

Spacesaver offers multiple safety technologies designed to protect users and stored materials. Depending on your system configuration, available safety features include the Safety Sweep, Photo Sweep®, Aisle Entry Sensor, and Zero Force Sensor®. These technologies help detect people or objects and automatically stop carriage movement when necessary.

How does the Safety Sweep work?

The Safety Sweep is available on Mechanical Assist High-Density Mobile Storage Systems. It detects contact with an obstruction and immediately stops carriage movement, helping protect both personnel and stored equipment.

What is Photo Sweep®?

Photo Sweep® uses an infrared beam along the bottom of the moving carriage to detect obstacles. If the beam is interrupted by a person or object, the system automatically stops moving until the obstruction is cleared, providing continuous protection during operation.

What is an Aisle Entry Sensor?

An Aisle Entry Sensor projects a light beam across the entrance of an open aisle. If someone enters while the system is closing, the sensor immediately stops carriage movement, helping prevent accidental contact.

What is the Zero Force Sensor®?

The Zero Force Sensor® uses multiple infrared beams to detect a person's presence anywhere within an open aisle. Unlike traditional safety sensors, it automatically prevents system movement without requiring physical contact and restores normal operation once the aisle is clear.

Which safety features are available on powered mobile systems?

All four safety options—Safety Sweep, Photo Sweep®, Aisle Entry Sensor, and Zero Force Sensor®—can be incorporated into Eclipse Powered Systems®, providing multiple layers of protection for users and equipment.

Are Spacesaver mobile shelving systems safe for employees?

Yes. Safety is a core part of every Spacesaver mobile storage system. The systems are engineered with built-in safety technologies that continuously monitor for people and obstacles, helping create a safer working environment in offices, healthcare facilities, museums, government buildings, warehouses, and industrial environments.

Can safety features be customized for my facility?

Yes. Every facility has different operational requirements. Our team will evaluate your workflow, traffic patterns, and storage needs to recommend the most appropriate combination of safety features for your mobile storage system.

Do safety features slow down system performance?

No. Safety devices are designed to operate automatically in the background, allowing normal operation while only interrupting movement when an obstruction or person is detected.

Can existing mobile storage systems be upgraded with additional safety features?

Many existing Spacesaver mobile systems can be upgraded with newer safety technologies. Our team can inspect your current installation and recommend compatible upgrades based on your equipment and operational needs.

Why are multiple safety options important?

Different facilities have different levels of foot traffic and access requirements. Combining multiple safety technologies provides additional layers of protection, helping reduce risk while maintaining efficient access to stored materials.

Where can I learn more about the right safety options for my facility?

Our storage specialists can assess your space, explain the available safety technologies, and recommend the best solution for your application. Contact Spacesaver Storage Solutions to schedule a consultation or request a free space assessment.
